Philosophy of peace festival
A space for pluralism and dialogue
Created in 2003 under the joint initiative of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Quebec (*)
and the House of Friendship, Peace Festival is a celebration of popular vocation
cultural, artistic and spiritual bodies where Peace Hotel, artists
musicians and choirs of various faiths can interact with the
Montreal public under the banner of Peace.
Brief History of the Festival of Peace Montreal
The Peace festival was created in the wake of the outbreak of the war against Iraq.
Indeed, in the winter of 2003, the image of the city of Montreal was a city of peace
when hundreds of thousands of Quebecers of all origins and races
together, braved the freezing cold to protest against the impending assault
against Iraq. These peace-loving people had wanted to underline their total opposition to
This armed attack in strongly condemning. Opposition to the war had mobilized
a crowd solidly united, like other peoples in the world, to take
position through a popular march but also to make a choice for PEACE. The
Festival promoters of peace have discerned in the way of Montreal in February 2003 a
action both symbolic and deterrent where demonstrators expressed a desire
to embrace a culture of PEACE.
A community event in a pluralistic context of collaboration
Organized in an Anabaptist perspective (*) of PEACE, the Festival of Peace is a
community event unique and widely supported by bodies of Peace
Montreal. It's an event you missed spring and authentic celebration
peace. An opportunity during which dozens of emerging artists of all
musical trends, use their talents to promote peace and to share
their passion with the public. After all, the Festival of Peace is a
experience of diversity in all its richness, but also a framework for lovers
music and artists on stage.
A mission to change the look on the difference
The Peace festival seeks to promote a culture of peace by working to:
· Create a festive atmosphere of the meeting of diversity in all its richness to
find joy in living together;
· Expose young Quebecois culture of peace;

• Engage Montrealers on the path of peace and promote the principles of
justice, equality and solidarity throughout the Greater Montreal;

intercommunal and interreligious in the acceptance of specific conditions;

relationships of justice, equity and solidarity;
· Awareness on the issue of ecology and environment.
A particular identity
The vision of Peace festival is noble. This view values the human person so that
his talent is a simple tool to communicate the message of peace. Moreover, it is a place
Opening song at the French and international. In short, the Festival aims to be a peace
place of celebration and meeting of the peacemakers from various backgrounds.
A motivated youth in downtown Montreal
The Peace festival creates an open area that facilitates education for peace through hosting

participation of young people by encouraging them to express and share their musical passion
on behalf of peace.

Notes
(*) The Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Quebec is a humanitarian aid agency and
Development of Community Churches and Mennonite Brethren in Christ. The
CMC Quebec mandate is to reflect a presence and a voice true to the values
Anabaptist and pacifist in a secular society in search of meaning and destiny. Indeed,
Anabaptists are Christians and peacemakers who profess pacifism.
Their communities are often called the Churches of Peace. And the prospect
Anabaptist Peace consists, among others, in the belief that Christians should
not take up arms or serve in the military service. The Anabaptists
strongly motivated by love of neighbor and the denial of any personal revenge,
resistance to evil by force and great charity (charities and
compassion in many areas).
